John Kasichs New York strategy: Eat everything in sight

The retail stop is a tried and tested staple of on-the-ground political campaigning: Show up, take a bite of the local diner's daily special, shake some hands, take some photos.

But Gov. John Kasich took it to a new extreme in the lead-up to today's New York primary, seemingly attempting to sample every deli in Manhattan. He stuck to an Italian theme: Pizza, pasta, deli sandwiches.

And normally that wouldn't be worth writing about. I ate a sandwich for lunch today myself. Big deal.

But Kasich just seemed to be eating so much. Reporters on the campaign trail couldn't get enough of it.

Unfortunately, there isn't likely to be a lot of exit polling about how Kasich's Italian food binge impacted his prospects in the Big Apple, or anywhere else in New York state. If recent polling is anywhere close to accurate, it didn't help much. But if Kasich going to stay in a race he looks extremely unlikely to win, why not have a few good meals along the way?
